The job: one place where every customer message lands, whatever app they wrote from, and one call that answers them there. Five steps, each one request.
1. Make the inbox account
curl -X POST https://makehybrid.com/inbox/v1/account \ -H "X-API-KEY: $MAKEHYBRID_KEY"
Once per organization. Calling it again answers the same account, so it is safe to run on every deploy.
2. Add channels
curl -X POST https://makehybrid.com/inbox/v1/inboxes \
-H "X-API-KEY: $MAKEHYBRID_KEY" -H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"name":"Website","channel":{"type":"web_widget","website_url":"https://acme.com"}}'
curl -X POST https://makehybrid.com/inbox/v1/inboxes \
-H "X-API-KEY: $MAKEHYBRID_KEY" -H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"name":"Telegram","channel":{"type":"telegram","bot_token":"123456:ABC…"}}'
The website chat answers with the snippet to paste before </body>; it loads from your own domain. Instagram and TikTok are added by a sign-in link, Facebook Messenger by a link a page's manager opens, and LINE, SMS and WhatsApp with the platform's own credentials — the reference has each.
3. Hear new messages
curl -X POST https://makehybrid.com/inbox/v1/webhooks/endpoints \
-H "X-API-KEY: $MAKEHYBRID_KEY" -H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"url":"https://acme.com/hooks/inbox","events":["inbox.message_created"]}'
Keep the secret it returns: every delivery is signed with it in the x-mh-signature header, and a repeat of the same event is normal.
4. Reply where they wrote
curl -X POST https://makehybrid.com/inbox/v1/conversations/$CONVERSATION_ID/messages \
-H "X-API-KEY: $MAKEHYBRID_KEY" -H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"content":"Thanks, we are on it.","message_type":"outgoing"}'
The reply goes out on the conversation's own channel. Add "private": true and it is a note only your team sees.
5. Resolve it
curl -X POST https://makehybrid.com/inbox/v1/conversations/$CONVERSATION_ID/toggle_status \
-H "X-API-KEY: $MAKEHYBRID_KEY" -H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"status":"resolved"}'
A resolved conversation opens again by itself when the customer writes.
Some channels let a business write first only in a template the platform approved — WhatsApp outside its 24-hour window is the common one. Answering is always allowed; starting is the platform's call.
Questions people ask
Can my team answer without writing code?
Yes. The installed app's Inbox screen shows the same conversations to every signed-in member, with replies, private notes, assignment, labels and phone notifications.
Can an AI agent draft the replies?
Yes. Give an AI agent of your own the inbox agent in a project room, or connect your assistant to /inbox/mcp, and ask it to draft; a person in the room says go before anything is sent.
