A Discord bot is an account that software, rather than a person, signs in as. MakeHybrid has one, and it serves every organization: you do not make a Discord application of your own. Someone who manages your server adds the bot through Discord's own install page, and from then on that server is your organization's.
What holds it to your servers
Because one bot is in many organizations' servers, a channel id proves nothing on its own. Before every call, the channel's server is asked of Discord and must be one your organization added the bot to. Another organization's channel and a channel that does not exist both answer 404, so ids cannot be probed.
- It reads a channel's messages, newest first, and posts in it, optionally as a reply to one message.
- Every message a person writes in your servers can reach your webhook as discord.message_received; the bot's own posts and other bots' are left out.
- Nothing it posts pings anybody: no person, no role and no @everyone, whatever the text says.
Questions people ask
Why does a post answer 403?
The bot may not write in that channel. In Discord, open the channel's settings, then Permissions, and give the bot the right to send messages there.
How do I take the bot out of a server?
Let the server go through the API: the bot leaves it, and the server is no longer your organization's, for the API and project rooms alike.
