Change an inbox label is a PATCH on /inbox/v1/labels/{id}, in the MakeHybrid Inbox API: one inbox for WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Telegram, LINE, email, SMS and your website chat. Every request carries your own key in an X-API-KEY header — the same key as the LinkedIn API's — and reaches only your organization's own inbox account.
One inbox holds every channel you add to it, so a reply goes back on whichever channel the customer wrote on — WhatsApp, Instagram, email or any other — through the same call.
The request
curl -X PATCH "https://makehybrid.com/inbox/v1/labels/$ID" \
-H "X-API-KEY: $MAKEHYBRID_KEY" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{}'
What goes in the path
- id — an id returned by an earlier call in this family.
What comes back when it does not work
- 401 — the key is missing, wrong or revoked.
- 402 — the plan is not paid for. The MakeHybrid API answers this once a trial has ended.
- 404 — either the thing is not there, or it is not your organization's. The two are deliberately the same answer, so ids cannot be probed.
- 429 — too many requests, or the platform asking us to slow down. Wait a moment before trying again.
- 502 or 503 — the platform did not answer just now. Try again in a moment.
Every error is JSON in the same shape: {"type":"errors/<code>","status":<n>,"detail":"..."} — so one handler covers all of them, and the detail is written to be shown to a person.
Asking an assistant instead
This operation is also an MCP tool. Paste https://makehybrid.com/inbox/mcp/<your API key> into Claude, ChatGPT or any assistant that speaks MCP and ask for what you want in plain words — the assistant picks the call, fills in the ids and reads the answer back to you. The all-in-one agent at https://makehybrid.com/mcp/<your API key> has it too, beside the LinkedIn API and every other channel.
In a project room
In a project room, tick this API's agent under Can use for an AI agent of your own, and it calls Change an inbox label as a tool whenever the conversation needs it. Everyone in the room sees what it asked and what came back. Ask in plain words; here the agent is called @scout:
- @scout list today's open conversations from every channel, and draft a reply to the oldest one.
Questions people ask
Can an AI agent call Change an inbox label for me?
Yes. Any assistant that speaks MCP can, through the address above, and so can an AI agent of your own in a project room with this API's agent ticked. The built-in agents of a room cannot: they advise, and they do not hold your key.
Does it work outside a room, from my own code?
Yes. The request above is the same operation an AI agent's tool calls, with the same answer and the same errors, and your key reaches the same channels whichever way you come in.
Does it work in a room under my own brand?
Yes. On a white-label address the API, its reference and its AI agent carry your product's name, and reach the same channels under the same rules.
Can a person approve before an AI agent does this?
Write it into the AI agent's instructions: say what it is about to send and wait for a person in the room to say go. A room shows every reply to everyone in it, so the words are seen before they reach anybody outside.
Which plan it is on
Included in the MakeHybrid API plan, with the same key as the LinkedIn API: $9 a seat a month, $7 from ten seats and $5 from a thousand. You need as many seats as you have of whichever you have most — LinkedIn accounts, WhatsApp numbers, X accounts or inbox accounts — and the 30-day trial covers one.
